CONTROLLER [SUMMER 99]

Ergonomic joystick for remote control

4 LEGO Mindstorms touch sensors read joystick position

2 RCX bricks (on the left) send IR signals to the robot to tell it which way to go

Top view shows stubby joystick

CONSTRUCTION & OVERVIEW [SUMMER 99]

Top view, showing 4 spinners, 1 RCX computer, & 8 battery boxes

1 RCX on the bot controls both sides of the drivetrain & the spinner weapons

Bottom shows 2-wheel drive & modular construction: 1 drivetrain & 4 separate color-coded weapon assemblies

Bottom of drivetrain--wheels have double rubber treads stretched on hubs

Bottom view shows wiring of 4 motors in parallel for each spinner

Top of same weapon assembly: 4 gearhead motors driving 1 turntable

Same assembly with spinner disc (with metal hooks attached)

Polarity switches make for good "relays" to run motors off of multiple battery boxes instead of wimpy RCX batteries
